Ratspace is primarily a rehearsal studio, but we have a steady trickle of recording going on throughout our nearly 30 year history. Audio for web content and live videos. Rhythm section, e.g. drums, bass and guitars tracking have predominated. But we also do multi day or even multi week bookings for groups and composers who need an affordable place to set up a bunch of gear and get creative. In many cases customers record themselves, and supplement their own recording gear with our mainframe studio equipment, mics, cables, stands and the like. Pricing for these scenarios is variable, feel free to suggest a plan and we can negotiate.
We are not a fully built out recording studio, we are just one big room with all the gear in it. And we are not completely isolated from outside environmental noise like trains and firetrucks, but for amplified music this is not a problem.
That all said we are equipped to do regular engineered recording sessions, both beds tracking or completed projects.
Hourly can rates vary hinging on complexity but our regular rate for in-house recording is:
$55.00 per hour
Multi-track recording is side-chained to our live stage type monitor system. It is possible to record multi-track audio while recording your own video content. We supply the audio engineer and send you away with 96k wave file stems on your own drive, or arrange transfer or delivery of data after the fact. Backups are retained on site until such time that we are assured that you have stuff backed up.
In-house engineered recordings can start at $45 per hour. We do full multi-track, engineered recording and mixing. It is a nice sounding room and some of the demo projects we have done in the 8 years we have been in this room end up sounding as good as the finished products tracked in more expensive and upscale facilities.
Check out our microphone list under the Technical>Mics menu item and our recording gear under Technical>Recording.
A recording package can be included with a multi day rehearsal booking. It can even be configured so that you can record yourself to our multi-track system. This is conceived as an additional tool for groups pre-producing or demo'ing new material in preparation for recording. Time spent rehearsing, arranging, etc. is billed at the appropriate rate and recording time is billed as a separate line item allowing groups to budget pre-pro/rehearsal time and demo tracking time without having to change locations. There are additional set-up costs but ongoing hourly engineer charges can be largely avoided in this configuration. You can even press play and record yourselves and we provide support when necessary. At the end you walk away with broadcast .wav files on a drive you provide.
